The Frigate A.R.A. LIBERTAD arrives to Barbados on the 50th Aniversary of her first visit.

THE FRIGATE ARA "LIBERTAD" ARRIVES AT BRIDGETOWN, ITS FOURTH PORT


The A.R.A. Frigate "Libertad", a Training Ship of the Argentine Navy, will arrive on Friday, September 20 at the port of Bridgetown, capital of Barbados, where it will remain until Sunday 22.

 

It is the fourth of the seven ports it will arrive at, within the framework of the 52nd Voyage of Instruction that began on July 20, when it cast off from the Buenos Aires Naval Station.

 

During their stay, the crew will carry out a series of actions that include a tour by the Midshipmen in Commission to the museum and area of the historic center of the city.

 

It should be noted that this is the fourth time that the emblematic ship has moored on this Caribbean island, marking this year the 50th anniversary of its first arrival in 1974.

 

The mission of the Training Ship is to complete the general and professional training of the Midshipmen in Commission of the 153rd promotions of the Naval Command Rank, 88th of the Marine Corps Rank, and 109th of the Professional Corps of the Quartermaster Rank, of the Naval Military Academy, to increase the ties of friendship and cooperation with the countries visited and to promote inter-institutional integration with national and foreign guests in order to meet the requirements of the plan of studies of the Naval Military Academy and to represent the Institution and the Argentine Republic in protocol.

 

Under the command of Captain Adolfo Rodrigo Ureta, the ship has a crew of 304 people: 29 Staff, 64 Midshipmen on Commission (including a scholarship holder from the Bolivian Navy) and a crew of 192 non-commissioned officers. In addition, 10 national guests from the Argentine Army, the Argentine Air Force, the Argentine National Gendarmerie, the Argentine Naval Prefecture, naval training institutes, and national universities are on board. In addition to nine foreign guests, from the Navies of Germany, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Italy, Mexico and Paraguay. Likewise, throughout the trip, representatives of the navies of other friendly countries will embark.

 

The itinerary will last around 3 and a half months and will end in November in Buenos Aires. With a total duration of 105 days, it will visit 7 ports in 5 countries, traveling a total of 12,930 nautical miles (equivalent to 23,946 kilometers), arriving at the ports of Fortaleza (Brazil), San Juan de Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico), Baltimore (United States), Bridgetown (Barbados), Recife (Brazil), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Montevideo (Uruguay).

 

History of the ARA Frigate "Libertad"

 

It was built by Astilleros y Fabricaciones Navales del Estado (AFNE) in Río Santiago, province of Buenos Aires. The delivery of the ship to the Navy and its affirmation of the flag was on May 28, 1963, making the 1st Instruction Trip between June 19 and December 6.

 

The National Executive Branch, by Decree No. 727 of May 30, 2001, appointed the frigate ship ambassador of the Argentine Republic.

 

So far, the Frigate has sailed 1,211,568 nautical miles (2,243,824 km), which is equivalent to 56 trips around the planet. In its long journeys it has visited 80 countries and 191 ports.
