"Argentina gives gift of art

The Artists Alliance of Barbados has painted a series of works showing the link between Barbados and Argentina.

The De-Colonisation art gallery was recently revealed in the Argentine Embassy, Hastings, Christ Church. Curator Oneka Small said Barbados’ move to being a republic resonated with conflict in the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands between Great Britain and Argentina.

“The United Nations charter says colonisation in all forms needs to be abolished, so it is important for we in Barbados to recognise this as we are taking that step to become a republic . . . and gain true sovereignty,” she said.

Small said more than 20 local artists participated and one guest artist from Argentina. One piece, Paradise King, created by Craig Yearwood, will be presented to the National Art Gallery as a gift. (CA)"
